FO: Socks for Par!

I finally finished the socks for Par that I've been working on for the last couple weeks. It was touch-n-go for a little bit when I was struggling to figure out the heels, but once I got those figured out it knit pretty well.

If Par gives the say-so, then I'll post a picture or two of her with her new socks. :)

Pattern: Conglomeration - Wendy Johnson's "Tiptop Toes" and Judy Gibson's "You're Putting Me On", with modifications.

Yarn: ArtYarns Ultramerino Sock, Colorway #

Needle: US 2 circulars and dpns

Cast-On: January 18, 2010    Bound-Off: February 4, 2010
(I had some frustration and then got a little bored, so they went away for a few days so I could be happy and recouped when I picked them back up.)

Notes:
The sock I made was a women's size 8, with 10 toe stitches and 8 heel stitches. The sock foot (instep) and leg were worked with 48 stitches. I will post the modifications I made to JG's pattern in case anyone else would like to try a reverse heel flap and needs a little clarification, or wants to try it without having to wrap stitches.

I'm a firm believer in crafting when in a good mood, in order to imbue the finished object with happy thoughts and feelings. The hope being, therefore, that whoever receives the object will experience their own happy thoughts and feelings of comfort and good will with the item, and no bad feelings will intrude near it.

These socks caused me a little frustration, as I mentioned in a previous post, simply because I couldn't find the heel type that I wanted. My experience with this yarn and the short-row heel did not work as I had hoped because of the patterning of the yarn and my inexperience working it. I chose instead to do a heel flap, working it in reverse as described by JG's pattern, with modifications to fit the number of stitches and size that I was using. Overall, I was quite pleased and had a lot of fun making these socks. Hopefully Par gets a lot of use out of them and has fun wearing them!

Par and her socks!

Edit: Par took these pictures and posted about the socks on her blog, too!

These photos courtesy of Par. They look great - thank you for letting me repost!(Her puppy, Gryff, could smell our Buddy Cat on the socks!)

  1. The socks look great! I'd vote for a different color ;) (die hard UofM fan here) but am loving them.

  2. Hehe! They did have UofM dyed yarn at the store, so you could make yourself a pair out of that. ;) Thanks for the compliment! :D
