What a Workout!

J and I got schooled at the gym last night.

We finished our usual workout routine - warm-ups on the ellipticals, weights for core/legs/arms, more work-out/cool-down on the ellipticals - then decided that we would do a cool-down by playing some basketball, rather than walking on the treadmills.

(Side note: J ran to the bathroom and the girl working the fitness center said to me, "Is that your husband you're always here with? I see you two come in here and work out together all the time and you're just the cutest couple ever! Nyawww!" I giggled and felt pretty good after that, and Hubby and I had a good giggle.)

There are two courts at the Y, one with hoops set for youth ball (which J and I usually use), and one with regulation hoops. Now, we normally play on the kiddie court - it's just for fun and we aren't very good. Plus, there's almost never anyone in there to watch us make fools of ourselves. The other day, though, we decided to check out the other court. It looks a lot like the basketball courts at University, with multiple courts surrounded by a suspended track. We shot for a few minutes in that court a few nights ago and realized that we're actually better at hitting the regulation hoops than the youths'. Go figure.

So last night I grabbed a ball and we headed to the big court. We started shooting free throws - missing horribly of course - and were just screwing around and having fun when two young boys walked in. They were probably in their teens, but it was hard to tell - one was short and stocky (though still taller than me) and the other was tall and skinny (not as tall as J, but much taller than me). The short guy asked if we'd like to play Lightning. I hadn't played for years and had forgotten how, and I could tell J had, too. However, we figured what the heck, and gave it a shot.

We played five games against those kids. I managed to hold off getting out before J on two games, and he lasted to the end twice. But those two kids, whew! They must have taken it easy on us for the first two games, then went to town. The tall kid won 3 games and the short kid won 2.

They schooled us good, but it was a lot of fun.

  1. hahaha. That's how I feel about video games. Srsly. Why is it that the little kids always pwn us when playing certain games? Shameful! (-_-;

  2. I know! I'm still proud for how well we did, though. :)
