Then a friend of mine made a request - handmade socks from homespun yarn. In return, an awesome piece of metalwork! (Did I mention W's a blacksmith? How awesome is that?! Check out his work at the Wet Dog Forge.).
His request is for some heavy socks that he can wear beneath his work boots. To make those, I wanted to make yarn that is a little heavier than my regular two ply. Therefore I'm making (or going to try at least) two different yarns. For the first, I decided to try making a 3-ply yarn, which is something I have never tried before. For the other, I'm working on spinning a heavy duty 2-ply from a brown & white two-way swirl, plied with my combed top.
For the 3-ply, I spun three sets of singles and plied them together. I'm pretty happy with the result:
Once the two batches of yarn have had time for the twist to set, I'm going to get to work knitting! I'll also include a picture of the brown 2-way swirl then.
