Two-fer: FOs

I made this post almost a month ago, but held off on posting so that I could give them to the recipient. Suffice to say, I did, and he really liked them.

From back in March:

These socks were commissioned by WW of WetDogForge in exchange for a fabulous piece of metalwork. He requested some heavy socks that he can wear with his work boots while he's out in the forge. I began by spinning some singles, tried my first three-ply, and used some of the two-way swirl given to me by my aunt when I started spinning to make a really interesting brown/white two-ply.

FO: Top-Down Socks
Pattern: Knitty's Top-Down
Yarn: Handspun Two-ply, from natural combed-top wool from Zeilinger's and brown/white two-way swirl wool from my aunt's sheep
Needles: US 5 dpns
Began: February
Finished: March 12, 2010

WW's request was for socks that were at least 10" tall to go under his heavy work boots. This yarn proved quite tricky, as I ran out twice. I finally made enough, and even though the thickness changed a bit toward the end, they turned out well.

FO: Toe-Up Socks
Pattern: Modified "You're Putting Me On" - The best toe-up pattern I've found so far!
Yarn: Homespun Three-ply, from combed-top wool from Zeilinger's
Needles: US 5 dpns
Began: February
Finished: March 8, 2010

This was my first attempt at a three-ply yarn, which spun up quite well. These socks were also at least 10" tall, to fit under WW's work boots.

They did fit, and he did really like them! And I got one awesome piece of metalwork in exchange. I'm convinced I got the better end of the trade - this new toy is SO COOL!! (Post on that to follow!)
