New Recipe = Tasty Success

Last week I decided to purchase a pair of frozen game hens. I had no real plans for them, only that I had been wanting to try them. One of my plans for the year is to cook at home as much as possible, so I figured now was as good a time as any to try new things.

That was last week. I had considered making them this weekend but with visiting J's family and watching football playoffs, they were not part of our scheduled fare. As I was searching for my stuffed cabbage recipe I decided to look for a good game hen recipe. The one I chose to make is this: Cornish Hens and Mushroom and Wild Rice Dressing. I substituted brown basmati for the wild rice, but otherwise followed the recipe fairly closely.

They turned out really well. I made both of them so that we could eat one now and have one later in the week. I made asparagus and croissants to go with the birds. I also bought some wine, even though neither I nor my husband are much of wine drinkers. A Riesling was suggested to me so I gave it a try, and it was quite tasty. J seemed to enjoy it quite a lot.

Overall, the meal was a success
