In a bout of new-year-resolution-thinking I set out to determine what exactly I hoped to accomplish this year, beyond the typical "lose weight, eat better" mantra that is chanted at every year's inception. Among other creative endeavors, I decided that I would like to start a blog. I had been toying with this idea for some time. The concept of a journal has always intrigued me, yet I have never been very attentive in adding to the pages of my leather- or wire-bound friends. Every time I feel inspired to set pen to paper my courage wavers, for I am afraid to sully those pristine white squares with my random babble. I fear to write much in case what I put down is rubbish. However, I realize that in order to improve myself to the point of writing something decent, I need to start by writing in general.
So, at the beginning of the new year I sat down to plan out this blog and what I hoped would come of it. Once again, I found myself hesitating, though for a slightly different reason. This is not merely a page in one of my books that I keep to myself, which if filled with doodles and nattering will only affect me. Rather, these pages will be relatively public, for those few souls who are (un)fortunate as to stumble upon them. What shall I write about? What can I do to entertain any who might read?
The logical conclusion is to write for myself. Things that interest me or take my fancy, they will be my topics. From things medieval and academic - possibly my own research if I manage to reach that particular resolution and do some - to general nerdery, from my exploits and those of my fat cat and loving husband to the products of my needles, hooks, and cooking books. I might even throw in a little of my own fiction or poetry, but that will remain to be seen. In all, I intend to write on things that I enjoy and that are close to my heart.
Readers, be warned: here there be a rambler. One with good intentions and a bit of resolve, but a rambler nonetheless.
